What's New in Adept 2011

Adept 2011 introduces exceptional new features that enhance communication and collaboration across the enterprise, improve performance and scalability, and enrich the Adept user experience.

Adept 2011 delivers advanced vault replication, two classes of web clients, and integration with Microsoft SharePoint. It improves global enterprise collaboration on critical engineering projects while providing a unified view of data and documents to all stakeholders.

It provides advanced transmittal capabilities, updated CAD integrations with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor 2012, SolidWorks 2011 and MicroStation, plus significant performance and scalability improvements.

New Features:

Adept Vault Replication with Binary Differencing

Adept Vault Replication allows multiple geographic locations to share a common Adept Vault, providing users at any location with fast, local access to files, and ensuring they are always working on the latest version.

Vault Replication - Click to enlargeVault Replication can be scheduled to occur at any desired time interval, and occurs automatically to ensure users always access the latest version. Adept users have a single, unified view of files, even in globally distributed, multi-vault environments.

Vault Replication with Binary Differencing is a premium option for vault replication. When an Administrator enables binary differencing, only the changes between files – not the entire file – are replicated to other sites. Binary differencing makes replication transfers much faster, while using significantly less network bandwidth. Its performance improvements will especially benefit organizations replicating vaults that contain 2D drawings or 3D models and collaborating online across sites.

Adept Explorer User Interface

Adept Explorer’s user interface has been upgraded with a sleek, new look and feel, along with improved controls and graphical components.

  • support for rich text and images in the Library card

Adept Explorer - Click to enlargeAdept Explorer also has faster screen refreshes and can now launch 3rd party viewers based on file type. Emails generated by the Adept Server based on workflow events now include a URL link to the Adept Explorer Inbox. With this new capability, users who do not have the Adept Desktop product installed can still have access to files that are referenced in email notifications.

Adept Reviewer

Built on the Adept Explorer 2011 platform, Adept Reviewer adds full workflow participation to the Adept web client experience.

With Adept Reviewer users can approve, reject, reject to previous step, reject to originator, re-route to a new workflow, and expedite approve and reject, add comments, and more. Email notification and time-based alerts are supported. Adept Reviewer also allows users to edit metadata in an Adept Library Card, including the new rich text format (RTF) memo tab. Adept Reviewer licenses are concurrent, and Adept Explorer users may upgrade to Adept Reviewer for a fee.

Integration with Microsoft SharePoint

Adept’s Microsoft SharePoint integration allows SharePoint users to access files managed by Adept from within SharePoint.

Microsoft SharePoint Integration - Click to enlargeSharePoint users have all the capabilities of Adept Explorer and Adept Reviewer, enabling them to find, view, print, markup, compare, and copy and assign files. They can view file status, version and audit trail information, file relationship information, and the progress of a file in a workflow. Users with access to an Adept Reviewer license will be able to fully participate in Adept workflows.

Adept administrators have the ability to control document access at a granular level, just as they can for users accessing files from within Adept Explorer or Adept Reviewer. An Adept Explorer or Adept Reviewer license is activated when Adept is accessed from within SharePoint

New and Improved Transmittal Feature

Adept’s Transmittals makes communicating and tracking drawing and document sets to outside contractors, vendors, clients, or internal users easier and more flexible. Users can save and send a transmittal through workflow for review and approval, create transmittal versions, and track transmittal activities in Adept’s audit trail.
